1. Sir Bobby Charlton (1956-1973)

No list of Manchester United legends is complete without Sir Bobby Charlton. A survivor of the Munich air disaster in 1958, Charlton embodied everything that Manchester United stands for. With a career spanning 17 years at Old Trafford, Charlton scored 249 goals in 758 appearances, setting a club record that stood for decades. Charlton won three First Division titles and played a crucial role in helping United win their first European Cup in 1968. His status as one of England’s World Cup winners in 1966 further cemented his place as one of the all-time greats.

2. George Best (1963-1974)

George Best was perhaps football's first global superstar. PelĂ© considered George Best to be the greatest footballer he ever saw and said that he played the game more like a Brazilian than a European. Best’s lifestyle off the pitch may have overshadowed his career at times, but his talent was undeniable. He won the Ballon d'Or in 1968 and remains an icon of the game today.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo (2003-2009)(2021-2023)

Cristiano Ronaldo’s first stint at Manchester United transformed him from a raw talent into one of the world's best players. Signed as an 18-year-old from Sporting Lisbon in 2003, Ronaldo developed into a lethal goal scorer and was pivotal in United's three consecutive Premier League titles from 2006 to 2009. His 42 goals in the 2007–08 season led United to Premier League and Champions League glory, earning him the first of five Ballon d'Or awards. Ronaldo’s second spell at United may not have reached the heights of his first, but his status as one of the greatest footballers in history was already secure.


4. Wayne Rooney (2004-2017)

United's all-time leading goal scorer, Wayne Rooney, signed from Everton as a teenager. The History Of Manchester United: From Humble Beginnings To Global Giants Formation & Early Years (1878-1902) The club was founded in 1878 as Newton Heath L&YR Football Club by railway line workers of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway. The club played its early games in green and gold colours and struggled financially. The club was on the verge of bankruptcy in 1902, but local brewery owner John Henry Davies stepped in to save it. The club then changed its name to Manchester United Football Club, marking the start of a new era. Newton Heath L&YR FC The Early Successes & the Busby Era (1945-69) The club won its first Football League title in 1908 and its first FA Cup under manger Ernest Mangnall. However, the most transformative period in the club’s history began after World War 2 when Matt Busby was appointed as manager in 1945. Busby revolutionised the club by placing an emphasis on youth development, which would later form the core of his famous team, the "B...
